Continuous Professional Development Survey of Social Care Workers

Dear Sir/Madam,

The Irish Association of Social Care Workers (IASCW) is the national professional body for Social Care Workers. The IASCW is carrying out a needs assessment of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) needs of staff working in a Social Care Setting and/or with a Social Care Qualification. The purpose of this survey is to establish a baseline of training/education needs for Social Care Workers in anticipation of statutory registration.

Social Care Workers are employed in a wide variety of Voluntary, Community and Statutory Services. These services include Residential Services, Disability Services, Drug/Alcohol Services, Homeless Services, Youth Services and many other sectors. In order to provide Social Care Workers across these sectors with the opportunity to tell us what their CPD needs are we are asking that organisations’ will forward this email to all their staff and/or through their networks.

As you may be aware CORU, the national regulatory body will require that all Social Care Workers are registered. As part of this registration process Social Care Workers will be required to demonstrate engagement in continuous professional development activities. A CPD Officer for Social Care has been employed to co-ordinate CPD events such as workshops/training for Social Care Workers to support them in preparing for registration. In order to ensure that these CPD events meet the needs of Social Care Workers it is important that we hear what these needs are.

We are asking all staff working in a social care setting and/or who have a social care qualification to complete this short survey. You can access the survey by clicking on the link below:

This survey should not take longer than 10 to 12 minutes to complete. It is very important that your voice is heard as this baseline will be used to inform the IASCW CPD Policy and CPD planning over the next three years.

If you have any queries regarding this CPD survey or any difficulty in accessing the online web link, please don’t hesitate to contact me at

Thank you for your support,

Kind Regards,

Catherine Byrne
